Paddington Modern Concrete Garden
A minimal contemporary design was used to update the garden of this small terrace in Paddington. The garden needed to be kept open as a multipurpose space as the car is often parker there off the rear lane. Large exposed aggregate concrete steps/ platforms lead down from the rear door of the back of the house. These have been built with a shadow line to accentuate their form. A semi floating formed concrete built in bench was located also against this same side, and a slimline BBQ fitted so as not to bulk out the space. In the floating section barstools can be pushed under. The base of the BBQ is clad in vertical timber battens which match the cladding of the boundary fences behind and bring warmth to the space. In the corner is a cluster of charcoal cylinder pots with contrasting glaucous grey green succulents. The space allows for entertaining, a future outdoor dining table and umbrella could be added or it could be kept open to maintain car access. The minimal use of quality materials, attention to detail and precise workmanship of the design have meant the creation of a garden that suits the personality and requirements of the client.
